What is Guru Purnima?
Guru Purnima, or Vyasa Purnima, is the day when Sri Veda Vyasa, the creator of the Mahabharata and the collector of the Vedas, is revered. Students offer their respect to their gurus and spiritual teachers on this day for the capacity to dispel darkness and infuse light into the lives of people.
In Sanskrit, “Guru” is the one who dispels “Gu” (darkness) and shares “Ru” (light).
